I just read The Child's Story by Charles Dickens. I thought it was kind of confusing because the traveller would follow a path and would meet a friend each time. Every time he moved on his new friend would be older than the last one. I figured maybe when his friend disappeared he just moved onto the next spot and aged while the traveller was walking but it never confirmed if it was the same person.
The ending was just as confusing as the rest of the story. I understood it, but then I didn't. The traveller's grandchild ended up being the one to tell the story and all of the friends were the family that was surrounding the grandfather. Now that I have written out what happened I understand it more but I still think that the friends were all the same people but the child at the end made it seem like it wasn't.
